Coleman MacKenzie 4 BlackOut - Award Winning Black-Out Bedrooms. Camping Magazine's Best Weekend/Touring tent for 2019. Introduced in 2019 remaining unchanged fro 2020 and expanding the range of Coleman Tents featuring the Award Winning Black-Out Bedrooms. MacKenzie 4 was voted the winner of Camping Magazine's Best Weekend/Touring tent. The MacKenzie 4 and 6 are probably our favourite models in the Coleman Blackout Bedroom range.
Tunnel style tents are the easiest to pitch but generally the weakest design of tent and susceptible to side winds especially Tunnel tents with Fibreglass Poles which flex. By using a good diameter steel pole you avoid this issue and make the tent very robust. Coleman also use Mesh Pole sleeves. This is a feature normally only found on expensive mountain tents to reduce buffeting by the wind. The wind goes through the mesh rather than pushing against a solid fabric pole sleeve. The Polyester flysheet has a 4500mm Hydrostatic Head and UV protection as well as the usual taped seams so should give a good life span to the tent.
Probably the biggest feature is Colemans Award winning and still exclusive Blackout Bedrooms. Most other manufacturers incorporate a darkened fabric into the inner tents of their tents, that just filter some light out of the bedroom area. Coleman have patented a System that incorporates a totally different type of fabric. This not only totally blocks out 99% of Light but also creates a temperature differential.
This is claimed to keep the bedroom 5. Cooler during the day and 1. The Blackout Bedroom feature has already won awards and as CAMPING MAGAZINE EDITORS CHOICE as the BEST CAMPING INNOVATION of 2016. The doors have a mesh interior door and fully zips up to keep bugs out and children, pets in. The Windows have lots of features including the option of being completely opened, a mesh window panel, a PVC window Panel or curtained off for privacy.Another Coleman Feature that is hardly mentioned is the Zip park feature. The Zips in the bedroom compartments are designed so the zip puller ends up in the same position when the doors are closed.
This is a safety feature in case you need to exit the tent in an emergency, you will always know where the zip puller is for a quick escape. This is also at a height so the smaller children can reach it. A simple but important feature. Its slopping front is our only moan as it is with all tents of this design. Having a sewn in groundsheet means that whenever you open the front door when its raining or the fabric is wet, then water will enter the tent onto the groundsheet, being sewn-in means no where for the water to go and you have to mop it up. Fortunately the Mackenzie has a side door with a rainsafe canopy over it. This gives protection against water entering the tent and would be the door to use in bad weather. An easy to pitch tunnel tent with a strong steel frame, good headroom throughout the tent, well designed with lots of ventilation options in the windows and doors.Coleman's award wining Black out bedrooms and some other unique Coleman features make this a winner. With the luxury of separate living and sleeping areas, this 4 person tunnel tent is so simple to pitch that it will be set-up in minutes, before the other occupants have time to get the tea on the boil. Extra headroom offers a more spacious feel and the panoramic windows provide adjustable light and privacy thanks to covers.

WeatherTec - offering comfort and protection when enjoying the outdoors. If a tent has a hydrostatic head of 4500mm it means that a 4.5 metre column of water can be placed on its surface before any drops will show through the underside of the fabric. (The Ministry of Defence in the UK classifies fabric with a hydrostatic head of 800mm+ as waterproof).
